BLUE JAYS BRING IN IF URSHELA

The Toronto Blue Jays acquired infielder Gio Urshela from the Cleveland Indians for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

What does it give the Toronto Blue Jays
It may seem strange for a team that boasts Josh Donaldson at the big-league level and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. waiting in the wings at the hot corner to acquire another third baseman in Urshela here. However, Donaldson can become a free agent at season's end, while there are still questions about Guerrero Jr.'s defense at third base. Enter Urshela, a player the current Blue Jays' management team knows very well. For now, the 26-year-old Urshela will provide organizational depth.

What does it give the Cleveland Guardians
The Indians recently designated Urshela for assignment, so they did reasonably well here to at least get back minimal return on their investment. He was once viewed as Cleveland's third baseman of the future but the emergence of Jose Ramirez as an everyday third sacker thwarted those plans. Cleveland also boasts Yandy Diaz as a potential third baseman in MLB, so they still have options. Young Nolan Jones is now their potential third baseman of the future.

Fantasy impact
Urshela moves from a deep organization in terms of third basemen to arguably the deepest (and best), but things can change quickly in MLB. For now, Urshela's fantasy value is negligible.
