RAYS REEL IN WILMER FONT
The Tampa Bay Rays acquired pitcher Wilmer Font from the Oakland Athletics for pitcher Peter Bayer.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays have been among the most unique MLB franchises when it comes to pitcher deployment, so perhaps Font will become the latest interesting experiment. He should get some time in with Tampa Bay's bullpen this year, and perhaps even a few short stints as a starter.
What does it give the Oakland Athletics
The A's had recently designated Font for assignment, so they did well to acquire a solid arm like Bayer in this transaction. The latter will likely pitch in relief if/when he arrives in MLB. Bayer has a big arm with plenty of strikeout potential, so Oakland did well here to add the 24-year-old.
Fantasy impact
Both Font and Bayer, especially the latter, should be monitored in fantasy circles but neither should be picked up in any league formats just yet. Take a wait-and-see approach with both pitchers.
