CATCHER CURT CASALI GOES FROM TAMPA BAY TO CINCINNATI
The Cincinnati Reds acquired catcher Curt Casali from the Tampa Bay Rays for cash.
What does it give the Cincinnati Reds
The Reds needed more catching depth, especially after trading away former No. 1 backstop Devin Mesoraco to the Mets earlier this season. Casali will back up Tucker Barnhart in Cincinnati.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays are always accepting of cash deals, so this move surprised no one. With Wilson Ramos and Jesus Sucre on the MLB roster, Casali was expendable for Tampa Bay so they took the money deal.
Fantasy impact
Light-hitting Casali is a career .199 hitter entering his new life as Cincinnati's backup catcher. There is no fantasy value here.
