ARIZONA ADDS OUTFIELD HELP IN JON JAY
The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired outfielder Jon Jay from the Kansas City Royals for pitchers Gabe Speier and Elvis Luciano.
What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
The contending Diamondbacks have been beset with injuries in the outfield this season, so it makes a lot of sense adding veteran Jay at this time. He is enjoying a strong 2018 campaign and can play all three outfield positions. Jay should help Arizona.
What does it give the Kansas City Royals
In Speier, the Royals land a left-handed reliever with some upside. The 23-year-old could arrive quickly. Luciano, only 18, is a lanky Dominican right-hander with far greater upside (and in need of loads more time in the minors). Overall, KC did well here as they are clearly rebuilding.
Fantasy impact
Jay's minimal fantasy value should remain intact after the move to Arizona, especially because of the injuries to both center-fielder A.J. Pollock and right-fielder Steven Souza Jr. Luciano has deep, keeper-league appeal already as a teenager with a good arm. As for Speier, he might eventually become a fantasy option if called up to Kansas City. Keep an eye on him.
