HERRERA HEADS TO WASHINGTON

The Washington Nationals acquired pitcher Kelvin Herrera from the Kansas City Royals for infielder Kelvin Gutierrez, outfielder Blake Perkins and pitcher Yohanse Morel.

What does it give the Washington Nationals
In adding Herrera, the Nationals now boast an awesome 1-2 punch in the late innings (with left-hander Sean Doolittle and righty Herrera). The future is now for Washington, so they are less concerned about Herrera's pending free agency at season's end than the Royals were.

What does it give the Kansas City Royals
Gutierrez could eventually replace Mike Moustakas as the Royals' third baseman. Perkins may take more time but should eventually compete for a spot in the outfield. As for Morel, he is a very raw talent with upside who is several years away from prominence.

Fantasy impact
Herrera's save opportunities may remain the same going from a bad team (KC) to a good team (Wsh), despite the presence of Doolittle. Herrera's other stats should improve with the Nats. Gutierrez, Perkins and Morel all have keeper-league upside (and value), though it is a bit too early in each case to make any real commitments here.
