BELTRAN LANDS IN SAN FRANCISCO

The San Francisco Giants acquired outfielder Carlos Beltran and cash from the New York Mets for pitcher Zack Wheeler.

What does it give the San Francisco Giants
The long-rumored deal has finally arrived, and Beltran will instantly change the Giants offense. He will likely play right field and bat third or fourth in the order, providing the club with the big bat they've been lacking for quite some time. They also got the Mets to pay some of Beltran's remaining salary. San Fran did lose a top prospect in Wheeler but, if there is a team that can afford to trade a top pitching prospect, it's the pitching-rich Giants.

What does it give the New York Mets
In Wheeler, the Mets land one of the top pitching prospects in the minors. They already boasted quality pitching prospects such as Matt Harvey, Jenrry Mejia and Jeurys Familia, but Wheeler moves to the head of the class. Losing Beltran hurts the offense, but he was likely a goner at season's end anyway. The Mets could be contending pretty quickly again with more moves like this.
