DIAMONDBACKS DEAL FOR MATT ANDRIESE
The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired pitcher Matt Andriese from the Tampa Bay Rays for pitcher Brian Shaffer and catcher Michael Perez.
What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
In Andriese, the D'backs land a versatile right-hander who can be used in virtually any role. With Arizona, expect Andriese to pitch in middle relief. He is a solid acquisition for a contender.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
Shaffer is a young arm with good potential, though he is several years away from being MLB-ready. Perez is a minor-league catcher who provides organizational depth.
Fantasy impact
Andriese will probably no longer start now that he is a Diamondback, so his fantasy stock is in decline. He might be a source for holds, though. Shaffer should be on the keeper-league radar, as he has a live arm. That said, he is nowhere near ready to become a fantasy factor. As for Perez, he is at best an option as a backup catcher. His value is negligible.
