MARINERS DEAL FOR DUKE
The Seattle Mariners acquired pitcher Zach Duke and cash from the Minnesota Twins for pitcher Chase De Jong and infielder Ryan Costello.
What does it give the Seattle Mariners
The Mariners have bolstered their bullpen recently but they still needed a solid southpaw. Enter Duke, who should provide quality situational relief from the left side for the contending Mariners. Seattle also got Minnesota to pick up a piece of what is left on Duke's contract for 2018.
What does it give the Minnesota Twins
In De Jong, the Twins land a decent prospect who should become a decent big leaguer at some point. He may not have the dominant stuff of a top-end starter or closer, but he should be serviceable. As for Costello, he adds another option for first base for the future. The retooling continues for Minnesota.
Fantasy impact
Duke should get more holds opportunities in Seattle, but save chances figure to be few with Edwin Diaz dominating the ninth inning this season. De Jong's fantasy value is somewhat limited due to a lack of dominant stuff, but he has a better opportunity now within the Twins organization. Ditto Costello, who is more of a long shot at this point.
