RED SOX REEL IN IAN KINSLER

The Boston Red Sox acquired infielder Ian Kinsler and cash from the Los Angeles Angels for pitchers Williams Jerez and Ty Buttrey.

What does it give the Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox have injury issues in the infield, with both starting second baseman Dustin Pedroia and starting third baseman Rafael Devers on the disabled list at present time. Therefore, adding Kinsler should help down the stretch. Both Brock Holt and Eduardo Nunez will probably fill in for Devers at the hot corner now, while Kinsler takes over for Pedroia.

What does it give the Los Angeles Angels
The Angels add a pair of relievers, one from the left side and one from the right, in exchange for their veteran starter at the keystone position. Jerez and Buttrey are both advanced enough to likely spend some time in MLB at some point this season. Los Angeles now has a hole to fill at second base, but prospects Jahmai Jones and Luis Rengifo offer hope for the future.

Fantasy impact
Kinsler has had his struggles in 2018 (.239 BA, 13 HR, 32 RBI), but a move to Boston may provide a short-term cure. Therefore, his fantasy stock rises after this deal. For both Jerez and Buttrey, this trade helps their quest to reach MLB and stick as bullpen pieces. Therefore, both of their respective fantasy values are also on the rise following this transaction. Also, keep an eye on both Jones and Rengifo moving forward.
