BUCS BRING IN ACE ARCHER FROM TAMPA BAY

The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired pitcher Chris Archer from the Tampa Bay Rays for outfielder Austin Meadows, pitcher Tyler Glasnow and a player to be named later.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
In Archer, the Pirates add a legitimate ace pitcher for their Wild Card chase. However, he is not a rental. Instead, Archer could lead Pittsburgh's starting rotation for several years to come. Archer turns 30 in late September and is under contract beyond 2018. He is the best player acquired on trade deadline day.

What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
If Archer is the best player in this deal, Meadows may not be too far behind. A dynamic outfielder who should instantly make Tampa Bay's offense more potent, Meadows should play regularly for the Rays going forward. He might slide into the right field position, full time. As for Glasnow, he has a ton of potential but has yet to showcase it in MLB as a starting pitcher. He should get that chance in Tampa Bay.

Fantasy impact
Archer's fantasy stock remains strong, and he may get a boost from a change of scenery too. He will continue to be a solid keeper in Pittsburgh. Meadows may become a superstar now that he has a full-time job with the Rays. As for Glasnow, it is now put-up-or-shut-up time for him to become a starter in MLB. The player to be named later figures to be a decent prospect, as well.
