McCUTCHEN MOVES TO THE BRONX!

The New York Yankees acquired outfielder Andrew McCutchen and cash from the San Francisco Giants for infielder Abiatal Avelino and pitcher Juan De Paula.

What does it give the New York Yankees
For the Yankees, this trade helps their cause as they attempt to leapfrog over the Red Sox in the American League East division (or maintain a stranglehold on one of the Wild Card berths). With regular right-fielder Aaron Judge still battling a wrist issue (and with no definitive timetable for his return), McCutchen should play every day in right down the stretch. The Yankees reportedly also got San Francisco to pay half of McCutchen's remaining salary for 2018.

What does it give the San Francisco Giants
In exchange for a pending free agent, the Giants did very well here. In Avelino, they get a solid, offensive-minded middle infielder who might become a candidate to play second base regularly next year. De Paula is a little more raw as a prospect but has plenty of upside in his right arm. He is a few years away from contributing. With McCutchen gone, expect San Francisco to shop for a new everyday right-fielder in the off-season.

Fantasy impact
McCutchen should get a short-term, month-long fantasy boost playing in the Bronx. That said, he is not likely to re-sign with New York in the off-season, so this boost should be short-lived. Avelino should now be on the fantasy radar and could be a late-round draft pick next year in all league formats. De Paula has keeper value but is further away from MLB.
