RYAN MADSON MOVES TO THE DODGERS

The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired pitcher Ryan Madson from the Washington Nationals for pitcher Andrew Istler

What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers needed a little insurance for closer Kenley Jansen, who returned to the lineup earlier this month after missing 11 games due to an irregular heartbeat. Madson certainly qualifies, as the 38-year-old right-hander boasts four saves this season and 91 for his MLB career. He is a good late-season pickup for Los Angeles.

What does it give the Washington Nationals
With the Nationals in full-blown selling mode these days, it is no surprise that they decided to move on from veteran Madson just prior to the August 31 trade deadline for postseason-eligible players. Madson struggled in Washington this season (2-5, 5.28 ERA), while Istler is a 25-year-old reliever enjoying a solid Double-A campaign.

Fantasy impact
Madson may see more hold opportunities down the stretch with LA, and he may even be needed to close out some games. Therefore, his fantasy value should receive a short-term spike. Istler is not yet on the fantasy radar, but he might be able to reach the big leagues in a year's time.
