NOVA NO LONGER A PIRATE

The Chicago White Sox acquired pitcher Ivan Nova from the Pittsburgh Pirates for pitcher Yordi Rosario and international bonus pool money in 2018-19.

What does it give the Chicago White Sox
The White Sox have a young starting rotation, so the hope here is that the 31-year-old Nova can help solidify things on the mound. He is coming off a decent campaign in Pittsburgh (161 IP, 4.19 ERA) and has experience pitching in the American League (with NY Yankees from 2010-16). The Dominican right-hander should help Chicago in 2019.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates have starting pitching depth, so they decided to move out one of their veteran starters in exchange for a prospect and a reported $500,000 in international bonus pool money. Rosario does not turn 20 until next month and has plenty of long-range upside as a starter. For now, he will likely pitch in low Single-A ball for the Bucs next season.

Fantasy impact
Nova has middling fantasy value, and his stock will not improve moving from Pittsburgh to the South side of Chicago. He is a depth fantasy starting pitcher at this point. As for Rosario, he should now be on the fantasy keeper radar, but is several years away from making an impact in any league format.
