CARDS DEAL WISDOM FOR ROBINSON

The St. Louis Cardinals acquired outfielder/infielder Drew Robinson from the Texas Rangers for infielder Patrick Wisdom.

What does it give the St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals were flirting with the idea of bringing back veteran utility man Daniel Descalso as a free agent, but instead opted to trade for Robinson (who checks all the boxes for what St. Louis was looking for: a left-handed hitter who can play virtually any position in MLB).

What does it give the Texas Rangers
With Adrian Beltre having recently announced his retirement, the Rangers needed to add depth at the hot corner. Wisdom should provide that and could also compete for regular playing time in 2019 (though Jurickson Profar is still expected to take over at third base).

Fantasy impact
Neither Robinson nor Wisdom is anything more than a fantasy dark horse for the 2019 season, and that has not changed even after swapping teams. Fantasy leaguers should take a wait-and-see approach with both players and see how things shake out after spring training.
