BLUE JAYS BRING IN RICHARD
The Toronto Blue Jays acquired pitcher Clayton Richard and cash from the San Diego Padres for outfielder/infielder Connor Panas.
What does it give the Toronto Blue Jays
For Toronto, Richard adds a solid left-hander for the starting rotation. The 35-year-old veteran struggled in 2018 but has experience and savvy, so look for him to become a rotation regular in Toronto in 2019. The Blue Jays are mostly looking for innings from Richard at this point.
What does it give the San Diego Padres
San Diego accepted to send some money to Toronto in this deal to help pay for Richard's contract. The Padres also received Panas in this trade. The 25-year-old infielder is not much of a prospect but he can play the outfield and has also played some third base.
Fantasy impact
Richard is no more than a late-round fantasy draft option at this point in his career. He provides innings but is not very reliable in any other fantasy category. Panas is a dart throw for the Padres, so he should not be on the fantasy radar for the foreseeable future.
