Smith Jr. is a left-handed batter who can play all three outfield positions and provide a bit of speed, a bit of power and a decent batting average. Therefore, the 26-year-old outfielder has a chance to win a job with Baltimore in spring training.

The Blue Jays had designated Smith Jr. for assignment recently, so they at least were able to secure a little better situation with potential international signings down the road. Smith Jr. became a victim of the numbers game with Toronto.
