ANGELS, GIANTS SWAP PITCHERS
The Los Angeles Angels acquired pitcher Chris Stratton from the San Francisco Giants for pitcher Williams Jerez.
What does it give the Los Angeles Angels
In Stratton, the Angels add a right-handed pitcher who made 26 starts for the Giants last season. His overall numbers in MLB are mediocre but Los Angeles hopes he can hold down a spot in the rotation this season. The 28-year-old Stratton is running out of chances to perform at a satisfactory level but the Halos provide yet another opportunity due to long-term injuries in their starting rotation.
What does it give the San Francisco Giants
The Giants have been very active leading up to the start of the regular season, with this deal being the latest trade. Stratton was not going to crack San Francisco's rotation this year, so the team shipped him out in exchange for more bullpen depth. Jerez is a 26-year-old left-hander who will begin his Giants career at Triple-A ball (Sacramento). He should see MLB action at some point in 2019.
Fantasy impact
Neither Stratton nor Jerez is much of a fantasy option at this point. A lot of things would need to change in order for either player to become a factor this season.
