The Seattle Mariners acquired catcher Tom Murphy from the San Francisco Giants for pitcher Jesus Ozoria.
What does it give the Seattle Mariners
In Murphy, the Mariners land a decent catcher with some power. He is a right-handed batter, so look for Murphy to form a platoon in Seattle with left-handed hitter Omar Narvaez.
What does it give the San Francisco Giants
The Giants claimed Murphy off waivers recently, but it appears it was done solely with the intention of trading him for a prospect. Ozoria is a long way from MLB but he has a decent arm.
Fantasy impact
Murphy should not be picked up in fantasy leagues at this time, since his playing time in Seattle has yet to be fully determined. Keep an eye on both Murphy and Narvaez in the first month of 2019 to see how the catcher at-bats are distributed in the early going.
