TAMPA BAY TRADES FOR ERIK KRATZ
The Tampa Bay Rays acquired catcher Erik Kratz and cash from the San Francisco Giants for a player to be named later.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays are really banged up behind the plate, with starting catcher Mike Zunino, backup Michael Perez and depth catcher Anthony Bemboom all on the Injured List at present time. So, for now Kratz will back up Travis d'Arnaud (another recent acquisition) until some of the injured backstops return to action.
What does it give the San Francisco Giants
The Giants are expected to get back starting catcher Buster Posey from the IL (concussion), and with Stephen Vogt also in tow, San Francisco no longer needed journeyman Kratz. The Giants also sent some cash to help cover Kratz's $1.15 million salary and will receive a future prospect down the road.
Fantasy impact
There is no fantasy value here, as Kratz will merely keep a roster spot until the likes of Zunino and Perez return from injury.
