DODGERS DEAL FOR 1B TYLER WHITE

The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired first baseman Tyler White from the Houston Astros for pitcher Andre Scrubb.

What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers are taking a flier on White, now 28 years old. He replaces the injured David Freese on the roster and will probably take over Freese's role as the right-handed platoon first baseman in the short term. LA is hoping that a change of scenery will change White's underachieving ways.

What does it give the Houston Astros
The Astros recently gave up on White after years of chronic teasing and underachievement. After he was designated for assignment, Houston sent White to LA for pitching prospect Scrubb. The 24-year-old right-hander is mostly a reliever with strikeout ability. He will remain at the Double-A level with the Astros.

Fantasy impact
White should not be picked up yet, but he is back on the fantasy radar after his move to the Dodgers. LA has resurrected plenty of bats in recent years, so perhaps White will become the latest successful reclamation project. Take a wait-and-see approach first, though. As for Scrubb, he has no value at this time but that may change if he moves quickly through the Astros organization.
