GIBAUT JOINS THE RANGERS
The Texas Rangers acquired pitcher Ian Gibaut from the Tampa Bay Rays for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
What does it give the Texas Rangers
In the 25-year-old Gibaut, the Rangers land a hulking right-hander with very good strikeout ability in the minor leagues. He has but one relief appearance in MLB but should become part of the Texas bullpen at some point later this season.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays surprised many by designating Gibault for assignment recently, largely because they needed to make room on the 40-man roster for other acquisitions. So, they moved him to Texas and will probably get back a marginal prospect in return.
Fantasy impact
Gibaut should be on the keeper radar as a potential late-inning reliever for Texas. For now, keep an eye on him. He might get recalled by the Rangers before September but is a virtual lock to see action in MLB before the end of '19.
