METS MOVE SP VARGAS TO PHILLY

The Philadelphia Phillies acquired pitcher Jason Vargas from the New York Mets for catcher Austin Bossart.

What does it give the Philadelphia Phillies
In Vargas, the Phillies land a left-handed starter who is familiar with pitching in the National League East division, after spending close to two years with the rival Mets. He is a serviceable starter who should upgrade Philadelphia's rotation down the stretch. Philly also received some cash to help pay for the rest of the veteran southpaw's salary.

What does it give the New York Mets
After acquiring Marcus Stroman recently from Toronto, the Mets needed to move out at least one starting pitcher. It was thought that the first to go was either Noah Syndergaard or Zack Wheeler but instead New York shipped out the 36-year-old Vargas instead. Bossart is a very marginal catching prospect with excellent defensive skills.

Fantasy impact
Vargas holds whatever fantasy value he had moving from the non-contending Mets to the contending Phillies, though he will now pitch in a far more hitter-friendly park. As for Bossart, he has little fantasy value even if he does eventually make his way to Queens.
