D'BACKS ADD CAHILL TO THEIR STABLE

The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired pitchers Trevor Cahill and Craig Breslow, and cash from the Oakland Athletics for pitchers Jarrod Parker and Ryan Cook, and outfielder Collin Cowgill.

What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
Cahill should slide into the No. 3 slot of Arizona's formidable rotation. He's more of a groundball specialist than pure strikeout pitcher, and that will be important as he moves from spacious Oakland to homer-friendly Arizona. He also switches leagues but should be a quality third starter. The D'backs also get a solid lefty reliever in Breslow and some cash to pay for the contracts added.

What does it give the Oakland Athletics
Parker is the key to the trade from an Oakland perspective. A former mega prospect, injuries have slowed Parker a little bit. However, he's expected to be at 100 per cent in 2012. If that's the case, he should be a member of Oakland's rotation. Cook could vie for a bullpen spot in '12, while Cowgill has a chance to see time in the A's outfield, as they have completely revamped the roster.
