OAKLAND TRADES FOR TANNER ROARK
The Oakland Athletics acquired pitcher Tanner Roark and cash from the Cincinnati Reds for outfielder Jameson Hannah.
What does it give the Oakland Athletics
Roark is a serviceable pitcher in the final year of his contract, so he might be a good fit for the contending Athletics (who often do well with serviceable starting pitchers in their spacious ball park). The A's also received a little cash to help with the rest of Roark's 2019 salary.
What does it give the Cincinnati Reds
After trading away toolsy outfielder Taylor Trammell to San Diego in the Trevor Bauer trade, the Reds were able to land another athletic outfielder here in Hannah. He turns 22 in early August and has reached high Single-A ball so far, though Hannah has a long way to go.
Fantasy impact
Roark is a fringe fantasy pitcher but the move to Oakland should help his numbers some. He should be picked up if available in all leagues down the stretch but he becomes a free agent this off-season, so his value will likely regress back to the mean if he leaves Oakland. As for Hannah, he has the ability to become a toolsy center-fielder with a lot of fantasy projection, but for now he remains largely a project.
