SHANE GREENE GOES TO THE BRAVES

The Atlanta Braves acquired pitcher Shane Greene from the Detroit Tigers for pitcher Joey Wentz and infielder/outfielder Travis Demeritte.

What does it give the Atlanta Braves
In Greene, the Braves land one of the major moving pieces of this year's trade deadline. He should immediately slide into the closer role for Atlanta, who now have Mark Melancon, Luke Jackson, A.J. Minter and Chris Martin to serve as setup men. This is a great move by Atlanta in their quest to hold onto the division lead in the National League East.

What does it give the Detroit Tigers
In return for their closer, the Tigers receive a 21-year-old left-hander in Wentz. The 6-5 southpaw is a good prospect for the future and he has already reached Double-A ball, so it may not be too long before he debuts in Detroit (perhaps a year from now). As for Demeritte, who turns 25 in late September, he has taken some time to develop but could become an instant Tiger.

Fantasy impact
All three members of this trade get a fantasy boost with this deal, especially Greene. He now becomes an elite closer in Atlanta. Wentz should now be on the keeper radar, while Demeritte could be a fantasy sleeper for the stretch drive of the 2019 campaign. Pick him up.
