MELANCON MOVES TO ATLANTA
The Atlanta Braves acquired pitcher Mark Melancon from the San Francisco Giants for pitchers Tristan Beck and Dan Winkler.
What does it give the Atlanta Braves
The Braves are bringing in three right-handed relievers at the deadline, with Chris Martin and Shane Greene coming in other moves. Melancon should serve a setup role for Atlanta, pitching in front of Greene in all likelihood. However, Melancon has closing experience and can be used as insurance for Greene down the stretch.
What does it give the San Francisco Giants
Beck seems to be the key to the deal from a San Francisco standpoint, as the 23-year-old Californian has pitched reasonably well at the high Single-A level this season (his first full pro campaign). As for Winkler, the 29-year-old reliever made 27 appearances for Atlanta earlier in 2019 but was more recently in the minor leagues.
Fantasy impact
Melancon's save opportunities may not occur in Atlanta but he should rack up plenty of holds for those in leagues that use that stat category. Otherwise, his value holds firm. Beck looks like a potential sleeper prospect for the Giants, and should now be on the radar for keeper leagues. Winkler's value is minimal, at best.
