RAYS, GIANTS SWAP PROSPECTS
The Tampa Bay Rays acquired pitcher Jacob Lopez from the San Francisco Giants for outfielder/first baseman Joe McCarthy.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
In Lopez, the Rays acquire a big left-hander with a projectable frame. He has yet to make it out of short-season leagues but Tampa Bay can afford to be patient here. Few teams develop pitchers better than the Rays, so Lopez has landed in a prime situation.
What does it give the San Francisco Giants
McCarthy is a 25-year-old corner player with great patience at the dish. He can play three positions and has value for MLB teams, but back woes and a lack of power are at the route of his issues. Still, San Francisco could use more help in the outfield, so he is worth a look.
Fantasy impact
Both prospects have no fantasy value at present time, though both have moved to positive situations for their futures. So, there is hope.
