DIAMONDBACKS DEAL FOR LEAKE

The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired pitcher Mike Leake and cash from the Seattle Mariners for infielder Jose Caballero.

What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
Arizona is both buying and selling at this year's trade deadline, with Leake an example of the former. The Diamondbacks have been after Leake for some time now and were finally able to get their man. The veteran right-hander should fill a role in the starting rotation and provide some experience to a very young group of starting pitchers at present time.

What does it give the Seattle Mariners
In Caballero, the Mariners get a second base prospect who turns 23 next month and has reached high Single-A ball to date. He can hit for average and steal a lot of bases but lacks home-run power. Still, he could move more quickly in Seattle's organization and may ultimately reach the big leagues in a year's time. This was a solid deal for both teams.

Fantasy impact
Caballero can now be on the keeper radar, despite his lack of power. Shed Long might be his only obstacle to regular playing time with Seattle down the road. As for Leake, he does not need to be picked up in most leagues. He is a decent pitcher in MLB but lacks fantasy oomph.
