SCOOTER GENNETT TO THE GIANTS

The San Francisco Giants acquired infielder Scooter Gennett and cash from the Cincinnati Reds for a player to be named later.

What does it give the San Francisco Giants
The Giants acquired Mauricio Dubon from Milwaukee on deadline day, but he is more of a long-range second base option. For now, San Francisco needed immediate help so they are hoping Gennett can turn his season around. Injuries have limited him to just 69 at-bats so far in 2019 but he is capable of providing a major boost to the Giants' offense: he had back-to-back seasons of 20-plus home runs and 90-plus RBI with the Reds prior to this campaign.

What does it give the Cincinnati Reds
Gennett missed 78 games due to a groin issue earlier this season, and the problem has not gone away completely. Furthermore, Gennett is scheduled to become a free agent this coming off-season, so the Reds had little leverage in negotiations (if they felt the need to move on, or if they had no intention of re-signing him). Cincinnati even paid some of his salary in this deal, and got back a future asset. His departure leaves a hole at second base.

Fantasy impact
Gennett could be a buy-low option for the remainder of 2019. He has nowhere to go but up and has proven in the past that he can be a solid run producer. Pick him up if you need infield help at second base.
