CRISTOPHER SANCHEZ FOR CURTIS MEAD
The Philadelphia Phillies acquired pitcher Cristopher Sanchez from the Tampa Bay Rays for infielder Curtis Mead.
What does it give the Philadelphia Phillies
Sanchez is a lanky 22-year-old lefty who can both start and relieve. He only has one game of Triple-A level experience, so he is not likely to spend much of 2020 in MLB. That said, he could be a situational left-hander for the Phillies in the not-too-distant future.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays decided not to protect Sanchez from the upcoming Rule 5 Draft, so they were able to get back a prospect in Mead in return. Mead is only 19 years old, so the second baseman has plenty of time to turn into something of value for Tampa Bay.
Fantasy impact
There is no fantasy impact (yet) here, as both Sanchez and Mead are prospects for the future. Sanchez may ultimately max out as a left-handed reliever, while Mead is several years away from becoming a second base candidate for the Rays.
