MARLINS MAKE A MOVE FOR VILLAR

The Miami Marlins acquired infielder Jonathan Villar from the Baltimore Orioles for pitcher Easton Lucas.

What does it give the Miami Marlins
In Villar, the Marlins land a quality infielder with both speed and power (24 HR, 40 SB in 2019). The switch-hitting Dominican will likely play every day at second base with Miami and also look for him to bat leadoff. Adding the 28-year-old Villar is a nice move for a Marlins squad that needs a lot of help on offense.

What does it give the Baltimore Orioles
For whatever reason, the Orioles did not think too highly of Villar (despite his big numbers while in a Baltimore uniform between 2018 and 2019). So, the O's shipped him to the Marlins in exchange for Lucas, a lanky left-hander who pitched in Rookie and Short-Season A ball this past season.

Fantasy impact
Moving to the Marlins may curb Villar's fantasy numbers a bit next season, so his stock could be coming down after this trade. That said, he should continue to provide stolen bases and double-digit home runs with his new team. Therefore, he remains a viable and quality fantasy middle infielder. As for Lucas, he has a long way to go before landing on the fantasy radar.
