METS MAKE A MOVE FOR MARISNICK
The New York Mets acquired outfielder Jake Marisnick from the Houston Astros for outfielder Kenedy Corona and pitcher Blake Taylor.
What does it give the New York Mets
In the 28-year-old Marisnick, the Mets acquire an excellent defensive center fielder who can also play on either outfield corner. He does not hit much for an everyday player but New York may be looking at him as either a defensive stalwart in the middle of their outfield on an everyday basis or as a platoon option. If the Mets can add enough offense to the lineup this winter, they would probably love to play Marisnick every day in center.
What does it give the Houston Astros
With George Springer ahead of him on the depth chart, Marisnick was never going to play every day in center field for the Astros. He did play as a platoon player but did not hit well enough to keep his job in Houston. So, the 'Stros dealt him for 19-year-old Venezuelan Corona and left-handed reliever Taylor. Corona is very raw but may turn out to be the steal of this deal. He has a long way to go, however, and has yet to play above short-season ball.
Fantasy impact
Marisnick is not a recommendable fantasy option, even if he does wind up playing every day in center field for the Mets. He has a bit of speed and some power but lacks the ability to hit for a consistent average. Corona should now be on the fantasy keeper radar, though he is probably too raw to be drafted in all but the deepest of keeper leagues. Taylor is a left-handed reliever who might get an opportunity to pitch in MLB with Houston in 2020, but offers little in terms of present-day fantasy value.
