GIANTS ADD COZART AND WILSON

The San Francisco Giants acquired infielders Zack Cozart and Will Wilson from the Los Angeles Angels for a player to be named later and cash.

What does it give the San Francisco Giants
The Giants decided to take on Cozart's contract, which has one season left (he signed a three-year, $38 million deal in December, 2017) in order to land shortstop prospect Wilson. The North Carolina product has a lot of upside as an all-around player but played Rookie ball this past season and is several seasons away from the big leagues. Perhaps San Francisco views Wilson as the heir apparent to Brandon Crawford down the line.

What does it give the Los Angeles Angels
For the Angels, this trade is all about dumping Cozart's contract in order to pursue one or more of the big-ticket free agents on the current market. Cozart struggled with injuries and inconsistency in his two seasons as LA's starting third baseman, so the team is probably glad to move on and start fresh here. Cozart is probably happy for similar reasons. The Angels sacrificed Wilson here but they are clearly in win-now mode.

Fantasy impact
Wilson is now on the fantasy keeper radar but is several years away from prominence. Keep an eye on him but he is not really worth drafting yet. As for Cozart, the move to San Francisco may not do much for his dwindling fantasy value. He might be an in-season pickup candidate if he gets off to a fast start in his new digs. Otherwise, he can be safely ignored in 2020.
