ROYALS TAKE A CHANCE ON ADAMS

The Kansas City Royals acquired pitcher Chance Adams from the New York Yankees for infielder Cristian Perez.

What does it give the Kansas City Royals
The rebuilding Royals need all the help they can find, so the hope here is that Adams develops into a serviceable reliever (or perhaps even more) for them. Developed as a starting pitcher in the minors, Adams has started just one game in MLB (so far). He should compete for a bullpen job in spring training.

What does it give the New York Yankees
The Yankees had high hopes for Adams once upon a time, but he struggled during his 16 appearances with New York between 2018 and 2019 (8.18 earned run average). So, after designating him for assignment, they were able to land Perez for him. Perez is a 21-year-old shortstop known mostly for his defense.

Fantasy impact
There is no fantasy impact here, as Adams is unlikely to receive save opportunities in Kansas City until at the very least the second half of 2020 (if ever). Perez is not on the fantasy radar.
