BOSTON ADDS AUSTIN BRICE
The Boston Red Sox acquired pitcher Austin Brice from the Miami Marlins for infielder Angeudis Santos.
What does it give the Boston Red Sox
In Brice, the Red Sox add a decent bullpen arm coming off a strong 2019 campaign in Miami. He has strikeout ability but lacks consistency. This is a low-cost move that could pay dividends for the Red Sox this season.
What does it give the Miami Marlins
The Marlins recently designated Brice for assignment, so it is no surprise that they decided to trade him. In return, the Fish land 18-year-old shortstop Santos. Obviously, he is a long way away from MLB.
Fantasy impact
Keep an eye on Brice during spring training, because he has a chance to emerge as a high-leverage reliever for Boston this season. He should not be drafted but might be an option during the course of 2020. As for Santos, he may or may not develop into a prospect but there is plenty of time for him to show his mettle. He is off the fantasy radar for now.
