SPRINGS FOR TRAVIS
The Boston Red Sox acquired pitcher Jeffrey Springs from the Texas Rangers for first baseman Sam Travis.
What does it give the Boston Red Sox
In Springs, the Red Sox get a potential situational left-hander for their bullpen. Springs has some talent but he struggles to put it all together. He will get another opportunity to show his mettle in spring training for his new team.
What does it give the Texas Rangers
The Rangers do not have a ton of depth at first base, so Travis may have landed in the right place at the right time here. He could be in the mix at first with a strong showing during the spring. He is a good gamble for Texas.
Fantasy impact
For now, neither Springs nor Travis need to be on the 2020 draft radar. However, Travis could be an intriguing case if he shows something in spring training. There is a chance he might wind up forming a platoon at first base with projected starter (and left-handed batter) Ronald Guzman.
