TRAVIS LAKINS LANDS WITH THE CUBS

The Chicago Cubs acquired pitcher Travis Lakins from the Boston Red Sox for a player to be named later.

What does it give the Chicago Cubs
Lakins, 25, made 16 appearances for the Red Sox last season and pitched reasonably well (he even made three starts). Walks can be a problem for him but he appears to be a solid gamble for the Cubs in 2020.

What does it give the Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox recently designated Lakins for assignment, so the most they could hope for was a future prospect or cash. That is what Chicago was willing to give Boston, so the deal was completed.

Fantasy impact
There is an outside chance Lakins may pitch in an important role for the Cubs in '20, but he is a long shot fantasy bet at best. Consider him a dark horse and monitor his progress in spring training. He is not worth drafting.
