PADRES PICK UP PAGAN
The San Diego Padres acquired pitcher Emilio Pagan from the Tampa Bay Rays for outfielder Manuel Margot and catcher Logan Driscoll.
What does it give the San Diego Padres
In Pagan, the Padres land a solid reliever who emerged as Tampa Bay's closer during 2019. For San Diego, the 28-year-old Pagan is expected to serve as a setup man for Kirby Yates. Losing Margot alleviates some outfield surplus for the Padres.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays have a tendency to trade relievers at peek value, which may have just happened again here with Pagan. Margot is a talented outfielder who will probably come off the bench in Tampa Bay. Driscoll is a young catcher who may switch positions. He has some upside.
Fantasy impact
Pagan's fantasy value may take a major hit in most leagues, although his stock remains high in formats that include the holds category. Margot's stock does not really change with the move to Tampa Bay. He should continue to face an uphill battle for consistent at-bats. Driscoll has some intrigue but he is too far away from MLB to consider (even in keeper leagues).
