BLUE JAYS BRING IN ROBBIE RAY
The Toronto Blue Jays acquired pitcher Robbie Ray and cash from the Arizona Diamondbacks for pitcher Travis Bergen.
What does it give the Toronto Blue Jays
In Ray, the Blue Jays receive a solid left-handed starter who has struggled mightily this season. Perhaps the change of scenery will help Ray, who can strike a ton of batters out (but who also has some control issues).
What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
Bergen is slightly younger than Ray but far less experienced. He made one appearance for Toronto in 2020 and pitched in 21 games for the Giants last season. He is mainly a reliever, so Arizona did not get much here in return.
Fantasy impact
Ray's struggles this season probably hurt a lot of fantasy leaguers, so he may have been dropped in many formats. Pick him up if he is now available, as he might be able to salvage some of his fantasy stock down the stretch for the Blue Jays. He is a free agent at the end of 2020, so there is plenty of incentive for Ray to turn things around in the American League. As for Bergen, he is off the fantasy radar.
