BRIAN GOODWIN GOES TO CINCINNATI

The Cincinnati Reds acquired outfielder Brian Goodwin from the Los Angeles Angels for pitcher Packy Naughton and a player to be named later or cash considerations.

What does it give the Cincinnati Reds
In Goodwin, the Reds get a solid fourth outfielder who can play all three positions outside the diamond. With center-fielder Nick Senzel still injured, and rookie Shogo Akiyama struggling in 2020, look for Goodwin to fill in for Senzel in the middle of the outfield in the short term. He could see action in left field, too.

What does it give the Los Angeles Angels
In Naughton, the Angels get a mediocre starting pitching prospect--which is as good as can be expected in return for a backup outfielder. Naughton has not pitched above Double-A ball, so he needs to continue to develop and prove himself in the minor leagues (whenever they restart playing).

Fantasy impact
Goodwin may see more playing time in Cincinnati down the stretch due to injuries, so he offers slight short-term fantasy value. Naughton holds no value for the time being.
