CAMERON MAYBIN MOVES TO CHICAGO

The Chicago Cubs acquired outfielder Cameron Maybin from the Detroit Tigers for infielder Zack Short.

What does it give the Chicago Cubs
Since the Cubs have two left-handed bats in corner outfielders Kyle Schwarber and Jason Heyward, it makes sense that they added the righty bat of Maybin to the mix. The latter veteran could see platoon starts in both left and right field down the stretch.

What does it give the Detroit Tigers
In exchange for a backup outfielder with no future in Detroit, the Tigers did well to land Short--a decent shortstop prospect for a team without a clear everyday starter for the future at the position. Short needs to prove he can hit before reaching the big leagues, however.

Fantasy impact
Maybin does not need to be picked up in any league format, as he will probably serve a platoon or bench role in Chicago. Short needs to start hitting better in the minor leagues before he becomes a radar-worthy fantasy shortstop.
