PADRES PICK UP TAYLOR WILLIAMS
The San Diego Padres acquired pitcher Taylor Williams from the Seattle Mariners for a player to be named later (Matt Brash - 09/17/20).
What does it give the San Diego Padres
San Diego has been crazy busy at this year's trade deadline, with Williams being the last in a long line of moves to bolster the big-league squad. He will probably pitch in a setup role with the Padres.
What does it give the Seattle Mariners
The Mariners were using Williams as their closer this season, but he was probably not their long-range solution in that role (especially for a team with plenty of holes throughout the roster). So, they did well to move him.
Fantasy impact
Williams loses all fantasy value in those leagues where saves are important and holds are not a stat category. Otherwise, he should continue to be relatively useful in some formats.
