COONRAD CORRALLED BY PHILADELPHIA
The Philadelphia Phillies acquired pitcher Sam Coonrod from the San Francisco Giants for pitcher Carson Ragsdale.
What does it give the Philadelphia Phillies
In Coonrad, the Phillies land a talented reliever who has had his ups and downs in MLB (so far). He has plenty of ability but does not always harness his arsenal. Still, he is a good gamble for a Philadelphia team looking to make improvements to their bullpen in 2021.
What does it give the San Francisco Giants
With the Giants, Coonrod struggled in 2020 but performed well enough the previous season to get a shot at the closer role last season. It did not pan out, so the club moved him on in exchange for Ragsdale. The latter is a huge right-hander with some bullpen upside.
Fantasy impact
Coonrod might emerge as a late-inning option in the Phillies bullpen, so he should be monitored closely in spring training. Ragsdale is not a fantasy option yet, but he could become one down the road (if he progresses well with the Giants). Keep an eye on both relievers.
