ZAMBRANO TO MIAMI FOR VOLSTAD

The Miami Marlins acquired pitcher Carlos Zambrano and cash from the Chicago Cubs for pitcher Chris Volstad.

What does it give the Miami Marlins
Zambrano wore out his welcome in Chicago, so he gets a new lease on life with the revamped Marlins. He'll likely start out as the team's No. 5 starter but could move up the rotation if he re-discovers past form. In case he doesn't, the Marlins also received cash to help pay for Zambrano's hefty salary.

What does it give the Chicago Cubs
In Volstad, the Cubs land a lanky righty with some decent upside. He hasn't pitched very well at the big-league level yet, but things may change now that he's in a different environment in the Windy City. He'll compete for a spot at the back of Chicago's rotation in 2012. The Cubs also relieved themselves of Zambrano here.
