McLOUTH OFF TO BRAVES

The Atlanta Braves acquired outfielder Nate McLouth from the Pittsburgh Pirates for pitchers Charlie Morton and Jeff Locke, as well as outfielder Gorkys Hernandez.

What does it give the Atlanta Braves
The Braves needed to inject some pop into the top of their batting order, so McLouth is a good fit here. He will be a major upgrade over rookie center-fielder Jordan Schafer, and provide more speed as the new leadoff man.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
Morton is a serviceable pitcher that should get a crack at the Bucs rotation at some point this season. The 21-year-old Locke has a little more upside, but his lack of control has been a problem. Hernandez is a decent outfield prospect with a lot of speed. The most important aspect of this trade from Pittsburgh's perspective is the fact Andrew McCutchen was called to take over for McLouth as the new center-fielder.
