CUBS GET GRABOW, GORZELANNY

The Chicago Cubs acquired pitchers John Grabow and Tom Gorzelanny from the Pittsburgh Pirates for pitchers Kevin Hart and Jose Ascanio, as well as infielder Josh Harrison.

What does it give the Chicago Cubs
Grabow is clearly the main man the Cubs were after for the stretch drive in this deal. He arrives to take some of the load off of Sean Marshall, who had been the sole lefty in the bullpen. Grabow has a pretty good track record against left-handed hitters, but can also stay in there against right-handed hitters. As for fellow southpaw Gorzelanny, he's a bit of a reclamation project for the Cubs, a guy who has shown he can be a strong mid-rotation guy in the majors, but has fallen apart over the last couple of years.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
Hart emerged as a solid prospect in the Cubs system and has opened eyes as a swingman with the big club this year, working as a starter and reliever. He'll take his deep arsenal of pitches and good pitching sense to the Steel City, hoping to carve a niche in the rotation. Another righty, Ascanio seems more fit for the bullpen. He'll head to the minors for now but may not be there much longer, profiling as a future setup man. As for Harrison, he's still in the low minors, boasting good wheels and a steady contact bat. He could be a quality super sub down the road.
