INDIANS LAND SLOWEY

The Cleveland Indians acquired pitcher Kevin Slowey from the Colorado Rockies for pitcher Zach Putnam.

What does it give the Cleveland Guardians
The Indians felt the need to add another veteran pitcher, since Carlos Carrasco (Tommy John surgery) may not pitch at all in 2012 and Fausto Carmona is currently under hot water due to alleged name fraud. Enter Slowey, who is well known to American League Central clubs due to his stint with the Minnesota Twins. He'll provide some depth here, but not much else.

What does it give the Colorado Rockies
Putnam saw action in eight games with the Tribe last season, so he could be a candidate to crack Colorado's bullpen in 2012. He has pretty solid strikeout ability, so he could be one to watch. The Rockies decided to quickly part with Slowey after adding other starter options in the off-season. They also want to make room for some of their top prospects.
