GREENE OFF TO ST.LOUIS
The St. Louis Cardinals acquired shortstop Khalil Greene from the San Diego Padres for pitcher Mark Worrell and a player to be named later (pitcher Luke Gregerson on March 23, 2009).
What does it give the St. Louis Cardinals
In Greene, the Cardinals add an excellent glove at the shortstop position. Additionally, he has a lot of power. On the down side, he isn't great at getting on base, strikes out a ton and has been injury-prone as well. Still, he should be an upgrade over Cesar Izturis in 2009.
What does it give the San Diego Padres
The Padres receive a relief prospect with a famous last name but the key to the deal should be the prospect that will be named later on. It better be, since the Pads are now without a starting shortstop--to go along with the other issues currently plaguing the organization.
