BURKE TO SEATTLE
The Seattle Mariners acquired infielder/outfielder Chris Burke from the San Diego Padres for cash.
What does it give the Seattle Mariners
Burke's calling card is his ability to play pretty much every position on the field (except pitcher and catcher). He was once a top prospect (a first-round draft pick in 2001 by the Astros) and has a nice mix of defense and sneaky-good power. He also has good wheels, making him a solid pinch-runner, so all in all he could be a valuable reserve in several roles for Seattle if he sticks with them.
What does it give the San Diego Padres
Burke was a non-roster invitee by the Padres and obviously wasn't what they were looking for, so they cleared some roster space here and get some cash in the bargain.
