Hairston takes over as the starting center-fielder in Oakland, with Ryan Sweeney moving over to right field. This improves the outfield defense in Oakland, while Hairston should also provide more right-handed power.
What does it give the San Diego Padres
The Padres received a good return for Hairston. Italiano and Webb are solid prospects, and the club will receive one more player from the deal eventualy. With San Diego in full-blown rebuilding mode, it makes sense.
